By now it’s well known that the opening sequence in the second season of AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ that aired was not the opening sequence originally planned. The original plan was to have the show pick up immediately after the CDC explosion with the cast fighting off hordes of zombies. Instead, season 2 started with Rick talking into his walkie-talkie and the group being pretty much already out of Atlanta.
But thanks to the miracle of Blu-ray/DVD sets, you can check out some of the deleted scenes that were scraped from this opening sequence in the upcoming ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 2 Blu-Ray/DVD set. Even more finer is that you can even watch one of those deleted scenes right here below! Hit the jump to take a look.
The clip picks up right after Shane’s rescue as we see the survivors trying to seek shelter back at the nursing home where Glenn was once held hostage. Included are some familiar faces and a whole lotta zombie killing!
For more deleted scenes as well as a commentary from showrunner Glen Mazzara as to why the scene below was cut, grab a copy of the Season 2 set when it is released on August 28th. And if you’re a really big fan, you might be interested in the Limited Edition Blu-ray that comes with a zombie head and removable screwdriver that can be plunged repeatedly into the zombie’s left eye socket!
And speaking of zombies, thanks to Comic Book Movie, we have a couple great stills of the Walkers that Rick Grimes and the survivors take out while at the prison in Season 3 following the video.
All this has me wanting the series to air sooner but we’ll just have to wait as ‘The Walking Dead’ returns to AMC on October 14th.
