Casting has been revving up for the film ‘Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’ as Aiden Turner, CCH Pounder and Kevin Zegers have all signed on to star in the film that’s based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Cassandra Clare.
Set in modern day New York, ‘Mortal Instruments’ centers on Clary Fray, a seemingly ordinary teen who discovers she is a descendant of a secret group of half-angel warriors called Shadowhunters who are locked in an ancient battle to protect the world from demons. When her mother (who also happens to be a Shadowhunter) disappears, Clary must join forces with the secret group who introduce her to the dangerous world of Downworld, an alternate New York filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures. Aiden Turner (‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, BBC’s ‘Being Human) will play Luke Garroway, the surrogate father to Clary Fray. CCH Pounder (‘Warehouse 13,’ ‘Avatar’) will portray Madame Dorthea, Clary’s downstairs neighbor who also happens to be a witch. As for Zegers (‘Gossip Girl,’ ‘The Colony’), he will be playing Alec Lightwood, a reluctant Shadowhunter who would rather “read about demons than fight them.”
The three will be joining Lily Collins (‘Mirror, Mirror,’ ‘Abduction’) who is playing the lead role of Clary Fray, Lena Headey (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Dredd’), Jared Harris (‘Mad Men,’ ‘Fringe’), Godfrey Gao (‘All About Women’), Kevin Durand (‘Real Steel,’ ‘I Am Number Four,’ ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’), Jamie Campbell Bower (‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2,’ ‘Camelot’), Robert Sheehan (‘Misfits’), Jemima West (‘The Borgias’) and Robert Maillet (‘Immortals,’ Pacific Rim’).
Filming is slated to being in a couple weeks in Toronto and if the film does well in the box office, it will become the first in a trilogy.
‘Mortal Instrument: City of Bones’ has a release date of August 23, 2013.
