It’s no secret that ‘The Avengers’ conquered the box office this year earning $615 million domestically ($1.45 billion worldwide), so it should be no surprise that Marvel is talking to ABC and is looking to develop the successful franchise into a TV drama series.

The project is said to be in the very early stages of development and at this point is only “a kernel of an idea.” What is known is that the drama series will be set in the Avengers universe with little connection to Joss Whedon’s blockbuster film. So although we may not be seeing the same superheroes that were in ‘The Avengers,’ it will feature some of the same themes and feel. A number of scenarios have been discussed including a “high concept cop show.”

A high concept cop show involving superheroes? Maybe it’s me, but this sounds an awful like the show ‘Powers’ that FX is still working on. There must be some confidence in the idea for this series as a search is on for a writer to scribe it.

It should be disclosed that Disney (who partnered with Marvel to make ‘The Avengers’) is the parent company of ABC so it may not be a coincidence that Marvel is in discussions with this particular network as opposed to another.

So what do you think? Would you want to watch an Avengers-theme drama series?
