You don’t have to be somewhere over the rainbow to see footage of Disney’s ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ as we have it here for you now! Disney unveiled the first trailer for the Wizard origin film earlier today in Hall H at Comic-Con and through the magic of the internet you can see what the buzz is all about.
The trick to use black and white film in a square ratio while Oscar Diggs (James Franco) is in Kansas, to the brilliant widescreen color when he arrives in Oz, is a great tribute to the original MGM ‘Wizard of Oz’ film.
‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ tells the origin of how the Oscar (aka Oz) came to the Emerald City and became such a powerful and influential wizard. As director Sam Raimi explains, we won’t be seeing the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow or the Tin Man as “those characters are not part of this picture because this takes place before ‘The Wizard of Oz’ book or movie took place, before Dorothy got there – by the time our picture ends, the audience has one interpretation of how it all came to be.” But you can rest assured, there will be flying monkeys, Michelle Williams as Glinda the Good Witch and the appearance of Raimi’s mainstay, his 1973 Oldsmobile!
Make sure you watch the trailer til the very end as there’s a glimpse of a great set up for what’s in store when the movie comes out next year!
