A few weeks ago we got the first look of James Franco as Oscar Diggs in the new Disney film ‘Oz The Great  and Powerful.’ Now the studio has unveiled the first teaser poster of the film!

The film was directed by Sam Raimi (‘Spider-Man,’ ‘The Evil Dead’) with the screenplay scribed by David Lindsay-Abaire (‘Inkheart’, ‘Rise of the Guardians,’ ‘Poltergeist’). Disney will be on hand at next week’s Comic–Con to give the film a proper unveiling but the release of the poster and a new synopsis only has us wanting to know more about the film!

The movie is said to be a prequel to L. Frank Baum’s classic ‘Wizard of Oz’ novel detailing the origin of the Wizard giving it the tone that it will be somewhat on the same vein as ‘Wicked’ and ‘Maleficent’ (the latter also produced by Disney.) Although Disney doesn’t own the rights to the classic MGM Judy Garland version of the story, don’t expect the ruby slippers to appear. From the poster, however, we can be assured that the yellow brick road, tornadoes, the Wizard’s hot air balloon and the Emerald City will still be intact. Hopefully a teaser will be released soon after the Comic-Con appearance so we can see more of Oz.

In the meantime, check out the teaser poster and the new synopsis below!

Official Synopsis:

“When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz;) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.”
