Despite that small glimmer of hope from two weeks back that revealed the quote about the cancellation of ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ to be fabricated by a disgruntled fan, it seems like our beloved Avengers show will be getting the axe, even though there has been no official announcement. If it’s not cancelled yet, then this cannot be a good sign pointing towards renewal.

In a press release (courtesy of Comic Book Movie), Marvel Television has announced it’s plans for this year’s San Diego Comic Con. On the agenda for the panel is a world premiere first look at ‘Marvel’s Avengers Assemble’, a new ‘Marvel Mash-Up’ featuring the Fantastic Four, a look at ‘Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.’, a brand new episode of ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’, and the unveiling of the next project from Marvel Knights Animation, which is described as “astonishing”. The panel will take place on Saturday, July 14th at 10:30am in room 6BCF.

While I’m sure that most people have already come to accept that there will be no more EMH, it still pains me a bit to see that it won’t be at Comic-Con this year. That’s basically saying that it’s no longer on the slate of projects in production. It really is a complete and total shame that Jeph Loeb and Marvel TV are pulling the plug so soon on something so awesome. Hopefully their new Avengers cartoon doesn’t suck.

Now it’s time to speculate about that “astonishing” project from Marvel Knights. Could this mean that the X-Men could be coming to a screen near you soon? If anyone is attending SDCC, please let me know!
