A few months back, it was announced that ‘Kick-Ass’ and ‘Dark Shadows’ star Chloe Moretz would be stepping into the pig blood-filled shoes of Carrie White from Stephen King’s classic 1974 novel and Brian De Palma’s 1976 film for a new theatrical version. Now, since production has begun on the remake, we have our first look of the actress on set as the title character, courtesy of Collider.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Moretz talked about what she planned to do with the iconic role:
“I’m not watching it (1976 ‘Carrie’) in preparation for the movie because we’re doing something totally different and I’m trying to bring my own take into it. I am changing everything about me—my hair, my look. I’m doing my own take on [the character]. The script is totally different from the [original]. It’s more like the book. It’s a more Black Swan version—it messes with your mind. You’ll see things, and you don’t know if you’ve seen them.”
I’m glad that director Kimberly Peirce is making this adaptation her own. Considering how beloved the 1976 version is, it would be for naught to try to simply replicate it. Plus, remember what happened when Gus Van Sant tried to remake ‘Psycho’ with Vince Vaughn? I think everyone likes to think about that and laugh sometimes, but that’s not what Peirce has going on with ‘Carrie’, so thank God for that!
Starring Chloe Moretz, Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Alex Russell, and Gabriella Wilde, this new adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Carrie’ opens on April 13, 2013.
