Ethan Hawke is a name that I haven’t heard in a while, but one that I know well because he was in one of my favorite movies of all time, ‘Dead Poets Society’. But after 2001, I barely recall anything he’s done since. Now, Mr. Hawke has resurfaced this year to play a crime novelist who moves his family into a murder house in the new horror movie ‘Sinister’.

The first trailer for the movie has hit the web today, and it looks like this could be the generic freaky horror film that people don’t stop talking about this year. People who got to see it at South By Southwest seem to enjoy it quite a bit. I’ll even bet that it turns into a franchise like ‘Saw’ and ‘Paranormal Activity’. After the synopsis below, check out the trailer (via Collider):

“A true crime novelist struggling to find his next big story, moves his family into a house where the horrific murder of an entire family took place.  But after finding a box of home videos in which other families are also brutally murdered, his investigation leads him to a supernatural entity that may be placing his own family in harm’s way.“

Written by first-time screenwriter C. Robert Cargill, who is also known as Massawyrm from Ain’t It Cool News, and directed by Scott Derrickson (‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’), ‘Sinister’, starring Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, and James Ransone is set to open on August 24th.
