Filming can now commence next month as ‘Shakespeare in Love’ star Joseph Fiennes has just signed on to join the cast of ‘American Horror Story’ next season.

Fiennes is no stranger to the sci-fi crowd having starred in ‘ABC’s’ Flash Forward as Mark Benford and the Starz miniseries ‘Camelot’ as Merlin. In what is being reported as the final major casting for the series for this season, Fiennes will play the head of the institution for the criminally insane which Jessica Lange’s character runs. He will also be the object of her affection. (Sidenote: Lange must have a lot of fun with this series as if you recall, she had quite a fling with another young hunky male named Travis played by ‘The Secret Circle’s’ Michael Graziadei.) Other than the fact that Fiennes’ character is “tortured,” the rest of his character remains a mystery.

Executive producer Ryan Murphy did promise this upcoming season would be “fun, sexy and baroque” occurring in the 1960’s. With Chloe Sevigny playing Shelly the nymphomaniac, Lizzie Brochere as a “ferocious, extremely sexual and dangerous wild-child sexpot,” Adam Levine as one half of the couple called “The Lovers,” and now the May-December cougar romance between  Lange and Fiennes’ characters, the upcoming season is sure to bring the “sex” in the sexy aspect Murphy talked about!

Also in Season 2 will be James Cromwell who will play Dr. Arden, a physician who is an employee and adversary to Lange’s character as well as Zachary Quinto, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Lily Rabe who we have yet to hear who they are playing (although we do know that Peters will play a character completely 180 degrees from the one he played in the first season).

Season 2 is shaping up to be bigger and more captivating than the last and I can’t wait until October when the series will return! So what do you think of Lange’s new love interest?
