Your friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man still has a home on Disney XD. The Hollywood Reporter brings us the news that ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’, the anchor of the network’s Marvel Universe block of programming on Sundays, will be returning for a second season with comic book writer extraordinaire Brian Michael Bendis penning some episodes and acting as a consulting producer.

According to the report, season two will feature Spider-Man teaming with other heroes from throughout the Marvel Universe like The Avengers, in addition to revealing more about the other S.H.I.E.L.D. trainees Nova, Iron Fist, Power Man, and White Tiger.

Head of Marvel Television Jeph Loeb had this to say about the new season:

“With Season 2, the series introduces popular Marvel heroes and villains you’ve never seen before on the small screen.”

David Levine, Disney XD’s VP and GM, added:

“As the anchor of our Marvel Universe block, Ultimate Spider-Man Season 2 will be back with more humor, villains and adventurous storylines that boys (and girls) will love.”

This news comes just days after the cancellation of beloved show ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ in favor of a new show called ‘Avengers Assemble’, which has been previously rumored to be set in the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ universe. Though the promotional artwork might indicate otherwise, you never know what those crazy cats over at Marvel TV will do next. While I’m happy for the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ crew for their renewal, I would have much rather seen another season of EMH considering it was one of the better Marvel animated series on television in years.

What do you think about ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ getting another season? Are you excited for what’s in store for the web-slinger next year?
