A few weeks back, we got news that Warner Home Video and DC Animation were working on an animated version of Frank Miller’s legendary Batman tale that changed the face of comics, ‘The Dark Knight Returns’. Presented in two parts so as to not leave anything out, the film boasts an impressive cast of voice talent including Peter Weller (‘Robocop’), Ariel Winter (‘Modern Family’), David Selby (‘Dark Shadows’), Wade Williams (‘Batman: Under the Red Hood’), and Michael McKean, as well as a script from ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ scribe Bob Goodman, all under the direction of Zack Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ storyboard artist, Jay Oliva.
Today, courtesy of Comic Book Movie, we have for you a first look at ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ in the form of images that will appear on the ‘Superman Vs. The Elite’ DVD release. In the picture above, we get to see the aging Caped Crusader, along with his female Robin, Carrie Kelly, and The Mutant Leader. You can see the rest of the photos below, after the brief synopsis for those of you unfamiliar with the story.
“’The Dark Knight Returns’ is set in a near future where Batman is retired and Gotham City has slid into a dystopian state ruled by a gang of hooligans called The Mutants. The 55-year old Bruce Wayne is forced to don the cape once more, this time partnering with a female Robin to not only stop the Joker, but keep the peace when the city falls into chaos after being hit by an electromagnetic pulse.”
