We won’t be seeing ‘Tron 3’ just yet, but to tide over fans, Disney XD will be premiering a brand new animated Tron series in June titled ‘Tron: Uprising’. Featuring an all-star cast of voices featuring Elijah Wood, Mandy Moore, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Paul Reubens, and the original Tron, Bruce Boxleitner, this show takes place between 1982’s ‘Tron’ and 2010’s ‘Tron: Legacy’ and follows a program named Beck, who becomes an unlikely leader of a revolution on the grid against Clu and General Tesler.

Here’s the full official synopsis:

“Produced by Disney Television Animation, the series follows Beck, a young program who becomes the unlikely leader of a revolution inside the computer world of The Grid. His mission is to free his home and friends from the reign of the villainous Clu and his henchman General Tesler. Beck will be trained by Tron – the greatest warrior the Grid has ever known. Tron will not only teach Beck the fighting skills he needs to challenge this brutal military occupation, but will be a guide and mentor to him as he grows beyond his youthful, impulsive nature into a courageous, powerful leader. Destined to become the new protector of the system, Beck adopts Tron’s persona and becomes the archenemy of Tesler and his oppressive forces.”

Sounds pretty good to me, but how does it look? Thanks to Collider, we have a new trailer for ‘Tron: Uprising’, which you can view below.

‘Tron: Uprising’ will be presented in 10 parts this summer, starting with a special 30-minute prelude on Disney Channel on Friday, May 18th at 9:30pm titled ‘Tron: Uprising – Beck’s Beginning’, with an encore presentation on Disney XD on Monday, May 21st at 7:00pm. The series official launches on Thursday, June 7th at 9:00pm on Disney XD.

Depending on how popular ‘Tron: Uprising’ gets will determine the future of the Tron brand. If it really takes off, then Disney will most likely start moving faster on the sequel to ‘Tron: Legacy’ and maybe get the ball rolling again on Tron-themed Disney park attractions. Hopefully, the show does really well because I really want to ride a light cycle on The Grid or have a drink at the End of Line Club some day.
