The one thing I like about featurettes is that they give depth to a movie that is not found in TV spots and trailers alone. I love seeing the behind the scenes footage of how what we see on the big screen came about. These two new featurettes for ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ are great examples of this.
The first is from the ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Facebook page and focuses on how the set adds to the imagery of the film. Kristen Stewart, who plays Snow White, and was so impressed with the sets stated that “… the visuals absolutely transported you somewhere else.” Director Rupert Sanders placed a lot of attention to the detail of what the setting would be and if he couldn’t find the look he wanted at a location, a set would be built with his vision in mind. What was very interesting to me was the large amount of green screen that encompassed many of the sets and if you watch carefully, you can see the before and after CGI effects of a scene in this featurette.
Of course another aspect of how epic this movie will be is the action and the second featurette from MTV focuses on that component. Stunt Coordinators Ben Cooke and Steve Dent and special effects supervisor Michael Dawson (‘Maleficent’, ‘World War Z’, ‘Wrath of the Titans’) all explain their part in the making of the movie.
Both featurettes show new footage not previously seen so that’s also a real treat. Check out the videos below and let me know if you think ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ will be as epic as it looks!
