And so it begins. Whenever something popular comes along, there is an inevitable batch of copycats that attempt to ride the coattails of whatever entertainment juggernaut is currently the “in” thing. I guess it’s best to look on the bright side though. At least this time it’s not more ‘Twilight’.

The CW is currently producing a pilot movie for a possible show titled ‘The Selection’. ‘The Selection’, which is based on an upcoming series of novels from Kiera Cass, is described by THR as “an epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads.” Sound familiar? Let the 2012 Hunger Games copycats begin!

The cast is already being lined up for ‘The Selection’. The latest to join the cast is Australian actress Peta Sergeant (‘Iron Sky’). Sergeant will be playing Gaia Woods, a rebel that is leading a rebellion to topple the corrupt monarchy. Sergeant will be joining a cast that already includes Ethan Peck (Gregory Peck’s grandson and star of ’10 Things I Hate About You’), Aimee Teegarden (‘Friday Night Lights’), and Sean Patrick Thomas (‘Reaper’). Mark Piznarski (‘Gossip Girl’) is set to direct the pilot episode.
