Not too long ago we reported that the CW had added ‘The Selection’ to their list of pilot orders. Now it looks like they are getting their cast list together as TV Line has reported that Aimee Teegarden has landed the lead role for the show.

Teegarden has a CW connection as she played Rhonda Kimble for 3 episodes of ‘90210.’ But she is best known for her role as Julie Taylor in the popular NBC show ‘Friday Night Lights’ which ran for 4 years. After that, she appeared in the web series ‘Aim High’ as Amanda Miles. Teegarden will be playing the poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads.”

If you recall, ‘The Selection’ was described as an “epic romance set 300 years in the future” and has been described as having the same tone as ‘The Hunger Games’ with ‘The Bachelor’ motif thrown in. The pilot is actually based on the book by Kiera Cass and will be out in brick and mortar stores and in e-book form on April 24th. Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain have adapted the novel and will also executive produce. These two seem to know what they are writing about as there is a lot of romantic angst in the other shows they have written on such as ‘The Vampire Diaries’, ‘The Dollhouse’ and ‘Angel.’

As this is just a pilot that the network is working on, there is no word as to whether this will actually make it to series so we’ll just have to wait. In the meantime, I wonder who will be playing the ‘Bachelor’ prince?
