‘Star Trek’ fans were overcome with excitement when the first photos from the set of ‘Star Trek 2’ leaked online a few days ago. (I don’t know about you, but I was overcome with giddiness!) Now we actually have some film footage of that fight scene between Zachary Quinto’s Spock and his nemesis Benedict Cumberbatch!

We still don’t know what connection Cumberbatch’s character has to Star Fleet or to the Enterprise crew but we do know he is a baddie. From the video, we can surmise he must be more than human as he’s holding his own in the fight with Spock. Of course this isn’t the angle the actual movie camera is shooting at, but you get the gist of the scene.  Since this is raw footage, you’ll just have to use your imagination as to how the fight would look once the green screen and visual effects are inserted.

‘Star Trek 2’ Set Video:

(It appears this set video keeps getting deleted, but as long as we can find it available online we’ll be sure to update this article.)

But that’s not all Trekkies, as more set photos have been leaked over the last couple days from the same fight scene which you can see below. Included are pictures of Zoe Saldana in action, Cumberbatch and Quinto with their stunt doubles and even a photo of Abrams at work.

Someone with an eagle eye noticed the camera equipment from one of the photos and it looks like some of the scenes will be shot in IMAX.  What does that mean to the average movie goer? Well, it means that the movie will be available to be viewed in an IMAX format as well as 3D (Abrams has already stated that he will post convert the movie into 3D). Audiences will get to choose which format will give them a more inclusive feel of the film. There are pros and cons for each format especially with the large amount of CGI expected to be used in the movie. Either way, it looks like the experience of watching ‘Star Trek 2’ has just been raised a notch.

Although we’re excited about all these leaked photos and video, apparently someone who is not so happy is director Abrams himself. In an interview with MTV, Zoe Saldana (who plays Uhura) had this to say about Abrams reaction to the leaks:

“J.J. was very upset. I have to say that. It’s not going to stop people from intruding, but they are, and it’s such a bummer because it only hurts them by stealing away the surprise.”

When asked what Cumberbatch brings to the mix of the movie, she replied, “Another yummy male actor in ‘Star Trek’ — that’s what he’s adding, and I’m enjoying it.”

And so am I, Uhura… so am I!

The still untitled sequel to ‘Star Trek’ will be in theaters May 17, 2013.
