We don’t have a plot or even a title to J.J Abrams’ sequel to his 2009 ‘Star Trek’ reboot but we do have some set photos thanks to MTV! Principal photography started last month for the film but we have a couple spoilerish photos to share that brings some light to who or what Benedict Cumberbatch (‘Sherlock’, ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’) will be playing.
The description of the photo states that Cumberbatch’s character (whose name has yet to be revealed) is locked in battle with Spock (played by Zachary Quinto) on “a Space Barge set.” As you can see, Spock is using the famous Vulcan Nerve Pinch to overcome his foe. According to the site, the scene has Cumberbatch’s character able to “overpower the (Vulcan Nerve Pinch) and regain the upper hand in his struggle against the Star Fleet officer.”
In another leaked photo, Zoe Saldana shows that the action is not all reserved for the men of Star Fleet as she prepares to aim a phaser at Cumberbatch during that same “epic battle.” Whether or not she is able to stop Cumberbatch from doing any more damage is something we’ll just have to wait and see until the movie comes out.
The site also mentions that Cumberbatch is wearing a black version of the Star Fleet uniform under his silver overcoat. Does that mean he, this now villain, was a prior friend and crew member? A spy placed on the Enterprise? What do you think?
The yet untitled ‘Star Trek 2’ movie will beam into theaters on May 17, 2013 and brings the return of Chris Pine (Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock), Karl Urban (Bones), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), John Cho (Sulu) and the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch, Noel Clarke and Nazneen Contractor.
