Zoe Kazan and Michael Stahl-David to play supernatual lovers in Joss Whedon's 'In Your Eyes'

When Joss Whedon formed the production company Bellwether Pictures with partner Kai Cole, he announced that the company would release micro budget films not normally taken up by big studios. They first produced a movie adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ and now it’s being announced that the company’s second project will be movie ‘In Your Eyes’ and they have already cast Michael Stahl-David and Zoe Kazan in the lead roles.

The screenplay was written by Whedon and is “a metaphysical love story about two seemingly polar opposites who are deeply connected in ways neither could have ever imagined.” Stahl-David (‘Cloverfield’) will play Dylan, a boyish-looking man who served jail time for a robbery when he refused to name his accomplices. He now lives in a trailer in New Mexico. Kazan (‘It’s Complicated’, ‘Me and Orson Wells’) will play Rebecca, an attractive, skinny, slightly awkward woman who is married to an older doctor and lives in Connecticut. The two realize that they have a powerful connection even though they’ve never met. The can hear and see each other even while being at opposite ends of the country and have never met.

Apparently the news that Zoe Kazan is playing Rebecca leads us to believe that Abigail Spencer is no longer playing the part. If you recall, last month she revealed that she had just signed on to play the lead in Whedon’s next film.

The movie, which has Brin Hill pegged to direct, will start production in Los Angeles and in the east coast soon.

Whedon has said this about his movie:

“When I wrote In Your Eyes, I didn’t have the wherewithal (or the moxie) to make it without an established production house. I believe, as I did then, that it’s a pretty timeless romance, and now, with the creation of Bellwether Pictures (and Brin Hill’s elegant, passionate take on the piece), I have the opportunity to prove it. (I also have a 37% increase in moxie.) I love this team and I can’t wait to see them bring ‘In Your Eyes’ to life.”

Whedon is a great storyteller and has a lot of experience writing about unconventional supernatural love stories. It’s good to see that he now has a production company that will produce small films like this one for Whedon fans to enjoy.
