Casting news is not over when it comes to Tom Cruise’s new film ‘Oblivion.’ Just a few days ago, it was announced that Morgan Freeman would have a “critical part” in the film and now Deadline is reporting that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has been added to the cast.

If you’ve been following the progress of the movie, this once titled ‘Horizons’ then ‘Oblivion’ then it became untitled and now it looks like it’s back to being called ‘Oblivion’ project will be helmed by ‘Tron: Legacy’ director Joseph Kosinki and is based on the comic book series he created of the same name. Coster-Waldau will be joining Cruise, Freeman, Andrea Riseborough and Olga Kurylenko for this futuristic film.

‘Oblivion’ is set in a future where the surface of Earth has been made inhabitable and most of mankind live high in the clouds. Those below are forced to deal with brutal alien scavengers that stalk the ruins. The story centers on a surface drone repairman named Jak (Cruise) who works on the surface repairing surface drones. When he discovers a mysterious woman from a crashed ship, he is brought to a world of intrigue that forces him to re-evaluate all he holds dear.

Coster-Waldau will play the role of an “intimidating and highly skilled military technology and weapons expert” named Sykes who crosses paths with Cruise’s character. He can currently be seen as the opportunistic and sinister Jamie Lannister on HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones.’ If you’ve seen ‘Game of Thrones,’ it’s easy to see why Coster-Waldau was given this role as he seems well fitted for it. He recently wrapped the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror film ‘Mama’ and will now be heading to begin production on ‘Oblivion.’

With the addition of Morgan and Coster-Waldau, ‘Oblivion’ is beginning to look like a film worth seeing.   Production of the film will begin in March in Louisiana and is slated for a July 19, 2013 release.
