Joseph Kosinski's 'Oblivion'

From playing God in ‘Bruce Almighty’ to helping Batman in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy to just being a boss in general, Morgan Freeman is everywhere, and it doesn’t look like he’s stopping now.

Today, Deadline reports that Freeman will be joining Tom Cruise in ‘Tron: Legacy’ director Joseph Kosinski’s ‘Oblivion’ for Universal Pictures. It is still unknown as to what role he will take in the film, but word right now is that it will be a critical part. As if we expect anything less of Morgan Freeman.

As previously reported, Tom Cruise is set to star in this futuristic love story that takes place when an unihabitable earth surface has forced most of the population to live in the clouds above. Cruise would play a surface dwelling soldier, who repairs drones that patrol and blast savage alien life forms. He then encounters a beautiful woman who has crashed on the surface, and they have an experience that forces him to question his world view.

British film star Andrea Riseborough and ‘Quantum of Solace’ Bond girl Olga Kurylenko will also be starring in roles, beating out names such as Hayley Atwell (‘Captain America’), Diane Kruger (‘Inglorious Basterds’), Olivia Wilde (‘Tron: Legacy’), and Jessica Chastain (‘The Help’).

‘Oblivion’ is based on Joseph Kosinski’s illustrated novel of the same name, and is set to be released in the summer of 2013.
