When we last left Sinestro in ‘Green Lantern’ #4, the ex-villain had just gifted the people of Korugar with their own Green Lantern rings. But, after their past experiences with Sinestro and his Corps, the citizens of Korugar turn on their benefactor.

After his plan to fight back against the Sinestro Corps using the people of Korugar, Sinestro reveals his plan B and again, Sinestro and Hal must battle their way past the Sinestro Corps to reach the yellow power battery that fuels the Corps’ rings. I won’t give away spoilers but, by the end of the issue, only one of the duo of Hal and Sinestro is a Green Lantern, and it’s not who I would have expected! Read it to find out who will hold the mantle in ‘Green Lantern’ #6!

Geoff Johns has been DC Comics’ go-to guy for Green Lantern ever since he brough Hal Jordan back to life in ‘Green Lantern: Rebirth’. Johns just gets these characters in a way that I haven’t seen any other writer do in a long long while. And, despite the epic space-battle backdrops of the series, ‘Green Lantern’ is all about the characters. Sinestro and Hal as allies in a more self-contained story makes for one of the most interesting Green Lantern tales in a while. Of course, it does help that Sinestro is one of my favorite characters in all of comicdom… and Johns just keeps making him cooler with every issue!

The art from Doug Mahnke is brilliant this issue. He nails the facial expressions that are so key to a character-driven story like this one. In one early scene with a standoff between Sinestro and his ex-compatriot Arsona, you could leave out the dialogue and still feel the tension oozing off the page.

‘Green Lantern’ may not be the best title of DC’s New 52, but it continues to be a solid read month in and month out and one well worth picking up.
