Hollywood has been turning to comic books more and more for inspiration for new projects. With such works as ‘Area 52’ and ‘Turf’ in development, it’s no wonder that executives continue to look in that genre for ideas. Now you can add ‘Crawl to Me’ to the list of comic books to be made into a movie.

A press release from IDW Publishing has announced that David Armstrong has been hired to direct the movie adaptation of the Alan Robert horror based comic book series. Armstrong has some experience in the horror genre as he has worked on six of the seven ‘Saw’ films as a cinematographer. ‘Crawl to Me’ will be his second directorial work. Currently, Armstrong is directing the indie hostage drama ‘Pawn’ starring Steven Lang (‘Terra Nova’), Michael Chiklis (‘Fantastic Four’) and Nikki Reed (‘Twilight’ franchise).

‘Crawl to Me’ is part of a multi-issue series that was written and illustrated by ‘Life of Agony’ bassist Alan Robert (who will also be producing the film adaptation). According to IDW, the just recently published first printing of the comic has already sold out and a second printing will soon be scheduled. Below is a plot synopsis of the book:

‘Crawl to Me’ takes place in an isolated country town during the frigid winter months. The story centers on a young family as they cope with a series of disturbing events that force them to question their relationship, their faith and their very existence. When husband and wife, Ryan and Jessica, move into their first home together, strange things occur. Half-eaten animals and other remains are found inside the basement’s crawl space. The family dog disappears within the house. Distant voices and singing are heard from beneath the floorboards. The couple begins to think that an evil entity is living inside their walls. Nothing can prepare them for what they’ll discover, and Ryan and Jessica soon realize that they must set aside all they believe to be real, in order to face the inevitable truth.

Robert is ecstatic about the film saying, “Creating comics has been a life-long passion of mine and I’m extremely grateful to be given the chance to tell my crazy stories. To see them come to life on film is a whole other level of awesomeness. I love horror movies, especially the ones with shocking twist endings like ‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘The Others’, so it’s my goal to create that same type of jaw-dropping impact with Crawl to Me.”

Now that Armstrong is attached to the project, a writer is now currently being sought to scribe the adaptation. If you’re a little curious about the comic book, you can check out trailer below that shows some of the intense graphics found in ‘Come to Me.’
