Last month we reported that NBC picked up a new comedy show called ‘Isabel’ and now it looks like they have finally cast the lead for the pilot.

Young Sophia Schloss has landed the title role as the young family member with magical powers. If she looks slightly familiar, she was last seen in the pilot episode of Grimm as the personified kidnapped Little Red Riding Hood.

‘Isabel’ will be about a “normal angry middle class family that wrestles with the challenges of everyday life while raising a daughter (Schloss) who has magical qualities.” From the description, it sounds like a ‘Rosanne’ meets ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ type of show. The comedy is based on the Canadian series ‘Le Monde de Charlotte’ which lasted 4 seasons. Right now, NBC has only committed to a pilot so depending on how well it does will determine if it will get a series pick-up.

‘Isabel’ will be directed by Todd Holland who has earned an Emmy for directing on another family comedy show, ‘Malcolm in the Middle.’ He’s also directed episodes of ‘Free Agents’, ‘The Larry Sanders Show’ and ’30 Rock,’ so the pilot sounds like it is in good hands.

‘Isabel’ was written by Howard Busgang and Tom Nursall who will also wear the executive producers hat along with Aaron Kaplan, Jocelyn Deschenes, and Karey Burke.

No announcement has been made as to when the pilot would possibly air.
