NBC has green lit a pilot order for a new show called ‘Isabel’ written by Howard Busgang and Tom Nursall.

‘Isabel’ has been described as a family comedy with a twist. Inspired by the French Canadian series ‘Le Monde de Charlotte’ (which aired from 2000-2004), ‘Isabel’ centers on a “normal angry middle class family that wrestles with the challenges of everyday life while raising a daughter who has magical (abilities).”

Casting is expected to start straightaway with the pilot slated to shoot in Los Angeles. Aaron Kaplan (‘Terra Nova’, ‘The InBetweeners’) along with Busgang and Nursall are set to executive produce the pilot. This marks the 10th pilot order for Kapital Entertainment, Kaplan’s production company which was started a little over 2 years ago. ‘Isabel’ will be their third comedic pilot this season joining ‘The Manzanis’ and an untitled Dan Fogelman project both for ABC.

The supernatural does seem to be a hot theme with new shows lately with ‘The Secret Circle’, ‘Once Upon a Time’ and ‘GRIMM’ doing well in their respective time slots and the anticipated J.J. Abrams show ‘Alcatraz’ coming in January. However, from the description of ‘Isabel’ alone, the show sounds like ‘Rosanne’ meets ‘Wizards of Waverly Place.’ Hopefully, the pilot will deliver better than the description does.
