While I absolutely love the comic book character of ‘Ghost Rider’, I’ll be the first to admit that the first ‘Ghost Rider’ film starring Nicholas Cage was an utter piece of rubbish. From early reports, it seems as if the second film, titled ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ is will be showing a different take on the flame-headed demon. To highlight the differences in the two films, Columbia Pictures has just released a set of four theaterical posters for the film that definitely give the film a unique look.
‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’ will again star Nicolas Cage in the title role of Johnny Blaze who turns into the flaming skeletal Ghost Rider whenever he is in the presence of evil. The film will be directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, best known for writing and directing the ‘Crank’ films, as well as writing the ill-received ‘Jonah Hex’ comic book adaptation. Neveldine and Taylor did not write ‘Spirit of Vengeance’. Instead, they are working from a script by Seth Hoffman who has written mainly for television on ‘House M.D.’ and ‘Prison Break’.
The official synopsis of ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance’:
“In the successor to the worldwide hit ‘Ghost Rider,’ Johnny – still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter – is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds).
At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy – and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.”
And while I’d argue the words “worldwide hit”, I can’t discount that these new posters are amazing to look at and definitely hint that we might be getting something new from this ‘Ghost Rider’. Here’s hoping…
