The Steven Soderbergh directed virus apocalypse film ‘Contagion’ easily took the top spot at the box office with $23.1 million. The taut, well-reviewed thriller did 3 times the business of its nearest competitor. Here’s our ‘Contagion’ movie review.
The apes just keep swinging and hitting it out of the park. ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ placed 6th in its 6th weekend in theaters with $3.8 million bringing its total worldwide box office to $373.9 million. ‘Rise’ has now passed 2001’s ‘Planet of the Apes’ reboot that grossed $362 million.
‘Apollo 18’ continues to play to mostly empty theaters as it still is playing in more theaters (3330) than ‘Contagion’ (3222). The scifi thriller pulled in just $2.9 million in its second weekend in theaters falling behind ‘Shark Night 3D’s $3.5 million.
‘Spy Kids: All the Time in the World’ took in an additional $2.5 million adding to its $48.3 million worldwide box office. Unless it’s international rollout brings in some big money, this latest installment will most likely be the franchises smallest box office take.
While ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2’, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, and ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ continued to bring in some box office cash, poor ‘Conan the Barbarian’ has just about stalled completely. It brought in just $300k in the U.S. and its worldwide total looks to top out around $48.4 million.
