In a recent interview with Digital Spy, ‘True Blood’ star Joe Manganiello said that his role on ‘True Blood’ conflicted with the schedule of ‘Superman: Man of Steel’, and he would not be the one to don the tights. We already know that Henry Cavill has taken the part, but not being able to take on the role left him feeling “really, severely depressed for a few months.” He also stated “Because I really thought the direction they were taking the movie and the character, I really thought I had a great idea where to take that and I was very excited and I just wanted to try out my ideas and things. But, you know, it just wasn’t meant to be.”
But, fear not Trubies, Alcide Herveaux isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. There has been big stuff promised to his character, and he loves the role. He has stated the following: “Playing Alcide is a bit like playing a superhero. He has this secret identity that he has to hide from the world and has these superpowers and is burdened by that,” and commented, “I love the show and I love this character, I love working with my castmates and I’ll forever be indebted to [True Blood executive producer] Alan Ball for the opportunity. So there’s a definite upside.”
If the schedule hadn’t conflicted, do you think Joe Manganiello could have made a good Superman? Personally, after seeing him without facial hair on How I Met Your Mother, I have a hard time seeing so. The rugged look is a look he needs to keep, and we all know Superman to be pretty clean cut. His acting, however, probably could have made up for the not-so-Superman look he has. I haven’t seen Henry Cavill outside of Stardust, so I don’t feel like I am a great judge, but I know Joe Manganiello and I think he could have brought a different light to the Man of Steel. The photo of Henry Cavill has me curious as to how things are going to turn out, with his clean cut looks and somewhat poofy hair I am intrigued. I’m not doubting his abilities yet, but I think Manganiello would have given him a run for his money if he had the chance to.
Do you think Joe Manganiello could have played a good Superman? What are your thoughts of Henry Cavill just based off of the current picture floating around? Are you excited for ‘Superman: Man of Steel’?
