With two new films debuting this week, genre films still held 8 of the top 10 spots this weekend at the box office.

Director Zack Snyder’s ‘Sucker Punch’ started out strong on Friday night, but couldn’t keep ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules’ from the taking the top spot with $23.7 million. ‘Sucker Punch’ took second with $19 million.

In its’ second weekend, action thriller ‘Limitless’ took the third spot with a strong $15 million. Animated fantasy ‘Rango’ dropped to fifth with $9.7 million this weekend.

Sci-fi comedy ‘Paul’ fell to sixth taking in $7.8 million, while alien invasion film ‘Battle: Los Angeles’ took seventh place with $7.5 million. ‘Battle’ raised its domestic box office total to $72.5 million.

Rounding out the top ten were ‘Red Riding Hood’ with $4.3 million, ‘The Adjustment Bureau’ with $4.2 million and ‘Mars Needs Moms’ adding $2.2 million to its anemic domestic box office gross.
