Playmobil is back and bigger than ever! This year at New York Toy Fair the crew from Playmobil was showing off a number of new products from their two biggest licenses, ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘How To Train Your Dragon’, while also premiering new products for the recently announced ‘Playmobil: The Movie’!
It’s a big year for the ‘Ghostbusters’ brand, which is celebrating its 35th Anniversary! With that in mind, Playmobil is releasing two new items that are geared towards collectors with a ‘Ghostbusters’ Minifigure 4-Pack and a new line of 6″ figures! The collectors edition 4-Pack will feature all four of the original ‘Ghostbusters’ along with proton packs and other accessories in a window display box. The new 6″ line will be individually packaged figures done in a larger scaled version of the Playmobil style.
Don’t worry, Playmobil haven’t forgotten about the people who have already been collecting their ‘Ghostbusters’ line already either! This year they unfortunately didn’t have a wide offering of new items in the line, but the one new item being showcased was definitely a nice big ticket item fans will love! Later this year fans can look forward to the new Ecto-1A from ‘Ghostbusters 2’! This upgraded vehicle features new add ons, lights, and sounds to bring it up to date for the design seen in the second film. It also includes pink slime accessories and the four Ghostbusters themselves in their grey uniforms as seen in ‘Ghostbusters 2’!
This year we are also seeing the third and supposedly final film in the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ film series with ‘How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World’ in theaters this month! Playmobil has released a number of collectibles based on he previous films in the franchise, so it’s great to see them coming back to wrap up the film trilogy with new offerings based on this third film. There are nine sets in total planned for this wave, with eight of them on display at Toy Fair and available in stores now! The 9th and final set is going to be a larger scale piece, but it will not be releasing or being revealed until later this spring in order to hold back some spoilers for the new film.
Finally, in what is probably the biggest news that the Playmobil brand has ever seen, a full length theatrically released ‘Playmobil: The Movie’ has been announced! The new animated film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jim Gaffigan, Adam Lambert, and many more, and will release in Europe this spring with a U.S. wide release being looked into. Playmobil was pushing the film hard at Toy Fair with a number of new sets based on characters and scenes from the upcoming movie! Sets will be themed around Vikings, Wild West, Ancient Greece, and Princess! The new playsets based on ‘Playmobil: The Movie’ will release this August!
