Natalie Dormer
Natalie Dormer has found her next role, as a lead on ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’.  Dormer will portray Magda, a shapeshifting demon “who can take the appearance of anyone she chooses and manifests in a number of guises throughout the story.”  She is also described by Showtime in this way:

“Charismatic, clever, and chameleonic, Magda is a dangerous enemy and an invaluable ally.”

‘City of Angels’ is not a direct sequel to the previous ‘Penny Dreadful’ series, but is described as a “spiritual successor”, and it does originate from the same creator, John Logan, who will write and executive produce the new show.  Instead of Victorian London, the new series is set in Los Angeles in 1938, shortly before World War II.

It was recently announced that Daniel Zovatto will play the main character, Tiago Vega, a police detective who is “investigating a grisly murder that becomes an epic story that reflects the rich history of Los Angeles.”  Johnathan Nieves play Mateo Vega, who is described as both “volatile’ and “essentially goodhearted.”  “He lacks the clear strength and ambition of Tiago and is vulnerable to both his own capricious emotions and influences around him.”  Jessica Garza will play Josefina, their younger sister, a quiet wallflower, who also “possesses a powerful spirit waiting to be unleashed.”

Dormer may be best known for playing Margaery Tyrell on HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’.  More recently, she appeared as Mrs. Appleyard on the western miniseries ‘Picnic at Hanging Rock’.  Last year, she starred in the thriller ‘In Darkness’, and the horror movie ‘Patient Zero’, with Matt Smith and Stanley Tucci.  She will next be seen in ‘The Professor and the Madman’ with Mel Gibson.  Her voice will be heard in the Netflix series ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance’.

It has not yet been announced when ‘Penny Dreadful: City of Angels’ will begin production or be released.  Check back for updates!
