Stranger Things

If the teaser trailer for the third season of ‘Stranger Things’ wasn’t enough to tide you over, there was an accidental leak on IMDB which has a new set of rumors surfacing.

IMDB isn’t always accurate, but it should be noted that the Internet Movie Database added a couple of new cast members to the film’s page including characters with the generic names of “Russian soldier,” “Russian Officer,” and “Russian Goon.” These have now all been changed with the “Russian” portion of the name dropped. This new development has caused rumors to come up about a Russia connection in Season Three.

One fan theory on Reddit is that Starcourt Industries, which owns and runs the mall, is “actually a Soviet front. The ‘rats’ are actually Soviet spies. We’ll begin to learn what these rats are up to. (In 1985 ‘Russia’ did not exist as a country. What we now call Russia was then known as the Soviet Union.) I think we’ll also see the Soviet spies engaging with Billy subverting him to do some of their dirty work.”

With Soviet operatives being familiar villains in ’80s movies, this isn’t that far of a stretch. Add in that the initial use for Eleven was to try to spy on other people, then this theory starts to sound true. However, I’m not sure if I would end up thinking that Russian spies are going to be the primary villains as I’m sure there will be something happening from The Upside Down to mess up Hawkins once again.

Do you think that we’re due for some Russian spies in the third season of ‘Stranger Things’? If this is part of the plot will it be a primary concern or a subplot for Eleven and her friends? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
