It wasn’t too long ago — less than a month ago, actually — that Warner Bros. released what fans have been dreaming of for years: ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ on Blu-ray. Each limited edition set was numbered and came with Funko Pocket Pops of Batman, the Joker, and Harley Quinn. Since the limited edition run of 70,000 (originally, it was 30,000) is quickly selling out, WB has announced the release of a streamlined, content-only set, which is available now.
“Demand for the most acclaimed animated superhero television series in history has been tremendous — nearly all of the 70,000 limited edition Blu-ray box sets have been sold across North America,” said Mary Ellen Thomas, vice president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, Family & Animation Marketing. “So that all interested fans have the opportunity to own this beloved series, WBHE felt the need to create another option to accommodate everyone.”
The 12-disc set (and, don’t worry, it still comes with a digital download), features all 109 digitally remastered episodes, hours of bonus features, the 90-minute ‘The Heart of Batman’ documentary (which every fan of the series should watch), and the remastered, fan favorite animated films ‘Batman: Mask of the Phantasm’ and ‘Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero.’
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the Emmy Award-winning series captured the imaginations of generations during its initial broadcast airing from 1992-1995, setting the standard for superhero storytelling for the past quarter-century with its innovative designs, near-perfect voice cast and landmark approach to DC’s iconic characters and stories. The series garnered a Primetime Emmy Award in 1993 for Outstanding Animated Program, along with three additional Emmy wins and 13 total Emmy nominations.
A preview of the ‘The Heart of Batman’ documentary can be seen below. Very few copies of the limited edition set are available, but WB assures fans that if they aren’t able to get a copy of the limited edition Blu-ray set, there will be plenty of copies of the streamlined version.
