Oscar Isaac Promises 'Star Wars: Episode IX' Will Deal With Carrie Fisher's Passing

It has been known for quite some time that ‘Star Wars: Episode IX‘ was meant to shine the spotlight on Carrie Fisher‘s General Leia and with her tragic passing, that has changed the entire plan for the franchise. However, Oscar Isaac is promising fans that they will handle the loss of Leia “in a really beautiful way.”

The actor who plays Poe Dameron isn’t quite as quick to jump the gun as his on-screen counterpart so don’t expect any early spoilers as to how they do it but it sounds like at the very least the cast and crew seem to be behind how J.J. Abrams is handling the loss of the iconic actress.

Filming ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ without Fisher is clearly a challenge both on and off screen as Isaac explains:

“The story deals with that quite a bit. It’s a strange thing to be on the set and to be speaking of Leia and having Carrie not be around. There’s definitely some pain in that.”

Thankfully, pain isn’t the only emotion that those involved in the production are feeling. With Abrams at the helm, it sounds like everyone involved with the creative process for the film has been reinvigorated:

“There’s a looseness and an energy to the way that we’re shooting this that feels very different. It’s been really fun being back with J.J., with all of us working in a really close way. I just feel like there’s an element of almost senioritis, you know? Since everything just feels way looser and people aren’t taking it quite as seriously, but still just having a lot of fun. I think that that energy is gonna translate to a really great movie.”

Isaac does stress that Fisher and the character which she made so famous will have a large impact on the film and you’ll feel her presence while watching the movie.

It sounds as if Abrams may have been able to keep in some of the moments which was going to make this Leia’s swan song, but time will tell if this will do the character justice or if we’ll see a backlash akin to that of ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi.’
