In a move that may surprise some, producer Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions has shared that he won’t pursue a sequel to ‘Get Out‘ unless creator Jordan Peele is involved in the production. The horror film took the world by storm when it was released in February of 2017 and impressed both audiences and critics alike. On top of that, it was nominated and won quite a few awards and even earned Peele an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Not bad for being his directorial debut.

According to Blum when it comes to a potential sequel:

“The only way I would work is if Jordan Peele came up with an idea. There’s no other way there could be a sequel to Get Out because it would stain the quality of the first movie. The only way I would touch it is if the person who created it wanted to. And I’m not going to encourage or discourage him, I have not and would not put pressure on him to do it again. It would have to totally come from him.”

While Jason likely would be thrilled to put a sequel in development for such a hit film and has expressed interest in doing so in the past, it is a breath of fresh air that he is so openly admitting that it would only happen with the creator’s involvement. One thing which would be interesting for a follow up to the film would be if the darker aspects of the proposed alternate ending could find their way into the sophomore outing in the franchise.

Blumhouse Productions already does have a slew of films in development and Peele himself is busy with ‘The Twilight Zone‘ and a potential ‘Candyman‘ remake, so the two parties already do have pretty full plates in front of them.

Are you thrilled that a production company is willing to stick with their creators over cashing in for a quick buck? Do you hope that Jordan Peele returns to the world of ‘Get Out’ for a sequel? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
