Thomas Haden Church Hellboy Lobster Johnson

It is time to get even more excited for the upcoming ‘Hellboy‘ movie as Lobster Johnson will be making an appearance and he’ll be portrayed by Thomas Haden Church (‘Spider-Man 3′,’Sideways’)! Earlier this year, the actor confirmed that he would be returning to a new comic role which had everything thinking he would be cast in the DC Universe but it looks like we were all thinking in the wrong directions.

The reason we were thinking DC is that he initially stated that:

“I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it’s another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains. I’m not supposed to talk about it, it’s a movie I shot last year. They’re trying to keep it-and good luck to ‘em-with, y’know, today man, I’m surprised it hasn’t already kinda been revealed.”

At the time, it was really just the MCU and DC’s films on everyone’s minds. However, Discussing Film got the inside track on a casting detail from ‘Hellboy’ which reveals that Church will be working opposite David Harbour in the upcoming movie. From the plot of the film it sounds like the movie will be taking place in more modern times but this hero was a “vigilante who worked in secret in New York City during the 1930s who had a reputation for violence and burning his trademark lobster claw symbol into foreheads.” The two heroes did share some time together in the books when Hellboy and the BRPD ran across Johnson’s ghost. After that time they worked together briefly in order to help stop Rasputin, the Conqueror Worm, and Hermann von Klempt.
