Supernatural

We all know that referencing the 80s has been popular as of late and now The CW’s ‘Supernatural‘ is getting in on the fun. Ever since Netflix had a blowout first season with ‘Stranger Things‘ we’ve seen films trying to capture that vibe, and with ‘Supernatural’ already having a “Scooby Doo” crossover, this isn’t too much of a surprise.

The cast didn’t share which slashers would be showcased here, but this isn’t coming out of left field as the ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘ is already set to have an ‘Exorcist’-inspired episode in its first season. Not surprising, the two both are on the same network.

The announcement came from showrunner Andrew Dabb:

“Sam and Dean and our whole crew get involved in our homage to ’80s slasher movies. We’ve got some really cool gory stuff planned for that.”

It wouldn’t be surprising to see the show work out a deal with any of the iconic franchise or possibly just echo some of the major tropes that we’ve seen come from ‘Friday the 13th’, ‘Nightmare on Elm Street,’ ‘Halloween,’ and more! With Dean not being a central focus of the upcoming season, this is just another way that we’re seeing the cast and crew trying to not only break the mold and keep the series fresh and original but also using the horror genre to keep things, well, supernatural.

An exact date for this episode has yet to be revealed, but it wouldn’t be too surprising that an ode to 80s horror would likely fall near a Halloween release.
