rag doll

You know the summer is beginning to end when we start getting spoilers for the upcoming seasons of the CW Arrowverse, and this year is no exception. Thanks to our friends over at That HashTag Show, we now know a new very interesting fact about ‘The Flash’ Season 5. According to the new information, it seems classic Flash villain RAG DOLL is set to make an appearance this season.

Rag Doll, whose real name is Peter Merkel, was an enemy of Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick, though his son does appear to inherit his villainous nature (and contortionist abilities) in the modern age as the new Rag Doll in the comics. While they could make Rag Doll a villain from the Earth where Jay Garrick is The Flash in the series, I don’t know if they will go that route when it would be much simpler to have him simply be a new foe for Barry and company to fight in the episode he will appear in, either with or without having powers affording to him by having been around on the fateful day of the Star Labs explosion.

According to ThatHashTagShow, the casting call is looking for:

“…a male in his 20s as Peter is described as an incredibly emotional damaged criminal who has the power to bend out of shape and fit his whole body into small spaces. As he is enjoying his criminal activities, Team Flash will be challenged by the Rag Doll in shocking ways as his sick plan is revealed. The breakdown specifies that they would ideally like to get actual Contortionists/Dancers or any kinds of performers who are able to contort their bodies in very disturbing ways.”

Understandably Rag Doll will most likely only appear in one episode (unless he proves to be a massive hit with the fans) as we already know Chris Klein’s Cicada will be the big bad for the season thanks to the Comic-Con trailer for Season 5 (which you can check out below). Still, it is still cool to see new characters like Rag Doll brought into the show. I hope they continue to pull from the deep catalog of characters that the Flash still has and do not simply revert to retreading old characters and villains as the series gets older.
