Timeless

NBC is giving fans of ‘Timeless’ a going away present– a two-hour wrap-up movie.  NBC cancelled the series last month after two years of low ratings.  Attempts to shop the show around to a different network or streaming service failed and the actors’ options ran out.  But even though the ‘Timeless’ fanbase was small, they were loyal, so NBC and Sony Pictures Television have teamed up to deliver a movie to serve as the show’s finale.  The idea of this movie was mentioned a while ago, but after the show was officially cancelled, it seemed unlikely but fortunately, things have fallen into place and it is moving forward.

Executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke stated that Clockblockers “can expect the Timeless they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team.”

On Twitter, Kripke posted:

Via a joint statement, the creators stated:

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing.  We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

In a separate interview with USA Today, Ryan said  “Ultimately, NBC, which has always been good to the show, heard the fans’ voices and didn’t want to be the bad guys in this. They want the fans to get a proper ending and leave on a high note.”

Stars Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett and Sakina Jaffrey are confirmed as returning.  Expect more returning cast members to be announced as this project advances.

Are you glad to get one last adventure with the Time Team?
