Time Bandits

Apple is still working on jumping into the original content game, and their next big bet is a remake of the classic 1981 movie ‘Time Bandits,‘ which was originally written and directed by Terry Gilliam (‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail,’ ‘The Fisher King.’). If this is picked up, the reboot of the iconic feature film will be delivered as an ongoing series and Gilliam will assume the role of Executive Producer.

As we’ve seen with ’12 Monkeys’, the creator has had no issues with his past films being adapted into an ongoing series. For those who aren’t familiar with this iconic tale, it follows an imaginative boy who travels through time with a group of dwarves to try and steal some of the greatest riches in history. This movie is a classic comedy that could easily lend itself to a more extended format of storytelling.

That being said, we do know that ‘Apple’ wants to create original content but they already have over a dozen shows which are in production for a streaming service which has yet to be launched. They also already have Steven Spielberg’s ‘Amazing Stories‘, David Goyer’s take on ‘Foundation‘, an untitled Ronald D. Moore space drama, an untitled M. Night Shyamalan drama, and potentially ‘See’ to cater to science fiction fans.

When going up against Netflix, Apple will need to bring the big guns to pull in some of their geek-minded subscribers who are already eyeing other streaming services such as DC Universe and Disney’s untitled service which will include both original “Star Wars” and “Marvel” content.
