Lucifer

It seems that this last month or so has been a real roller coaster for fans of genre television shows, with numerous fan favorites getting the ax from their respective networks and that includes FOX’s ‘Lucifer’.  But genre fans aren’t the sort to sit idle and say goodbye without a fight.  Already this month, fans of Syfy’s ‘The Expanse’ launched a massive campaign to revive that space-faring adventure which included hiring a plane to fly outside of Amazon’s headquarters with a banner urging the streaming service to save it… and it worked!  Amazon just announced that they are reviving ‘The Expanse’ for a fourth season, which presumably could lead to more should that one perform well.

Now comes another glimmer of hope, as ‘Lucifer’ star Tom Ellis appeared at MCM London Comic Con to hold a Q&A with fans and quickly declared that he could not comment on the future (if there is one) of ‘Lucifer’.  But he did declare that there had been conversations about saving the show and that these had come about thanks to the support from fans.

This is how he kicked the Q&A off:

“When I said I was going to do a Q and A today I said specifically yes, but I will categorically tell you at the start of the Q and A I can’t answer any questions about whether the show will be saved or not.  But what I will say is that when I found out about the cancellation of the show I was gutted actually and when the news came out about the cancellation of the show I became instantly not gutted from the reaction of people and the hashtag ‘save Lucifer‘ has literally picked me up off the floor and the rest of my cast and we’re all determined to save the show. Conversations have started happening as a result of the noise that you guys have been making so all I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you.”

He did not elaborate any further.  It’s doubtful that FOX is back pedaling on their decision to cancel it.  Just weeks ago, it axed the sitcom ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’, which NBC then picked up.  It’s possible that another network will pick it up, but it seems that streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon are the more likely choices.  But some fans seem to think the perfect home is Warner Brothers’ own upcoming DC Universe service.  After all, ‘Lucifer’ is based on the DC/Vertigo comic series.  The service is launching with a handful of original programs, live action versions of ‘Titans’ and ‘Swamp Thing’ (another sometimes Vertigo series) and animated shows ‘Young Justice’ and ‘Harley Quinn’.  Since this streaming service is just beginning, importing a show with an existing fan base could give it a real boost.

Are you happy that there is a chance that ‘Lucifer’ could return?  What outlet would you prefer to see it wind up at?
