ted kord

According to ‘That Hashtag Show,’ there is a new rumor that one of the Blue Beetles of DC Comics, Ted Kord, might finally be landing in the Arrowverse next season with a recurring role on ‘Arrow.’ Fans have been clamoring for this particular character to join the ranks of the ‘Arrowverse’ heroes for some time now, especially when a lot of hints have been dropped about the existence of Ted in the world, not to mention the blatant references to his company, Kord Industries, spread throughout the various shows. And while we have been burned in the past (the last time we thought it was going to happen ‘Arrow’ instead introduced Ray Palmer, which was not a bad character to add, especially with how well he has done on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’), fans are hoping this time they are not having their collective legs pulled again.

The problem is that while casting, understandably, the production companies never reveal the names of the actual characters they are casting for, instead using bland names or obscure DC Comics characters that most people would not think twice about when reading in a casting notice. However, they are looking for a character named ‘Daniel Porter,’ and the last time a “Daniel” was being cast we got Ray Palmer. Plus, this ‘Daniel Porter’s’ description is of a 30-something Caucasian male (cause sadly, even today, most well-known comic-book heroes fit that description), who is described as:

“an intelligent and homosexual technological entrepreneur whose creativity has given him a huge success as a businessman. But having gone through tragic losses in his life is something he hides from the people around him, thus struggling with shaping new relationships with others.”

Sounds like a hero to me, and while making him gay would be different from the comics, it would not necessarily change the character beyond recognition, and it would give him a connection to the team if he becomes a love-interest for Curtis. Now while it was true that Warner Bros/ DC Execs once had Blue Beetle on their list of characters the TV branch was not allowed to use, I’m hoping things have changed (or they have finally just given up on this stupid idea of not wanting multiple versions characters because it would “confuse fans,” especially with the CW heroes doing noticeably better than their big-screen interpretations – minus ‘Wonder Woman’ of course).

What are your thoughts on the matter? Could “Daniel Porter” be Ted Kord? What role could he be playing in next season’s arc on ‘Arrow?’ Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below!
