Rampage

With Disney bringing the release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ up a week from May 4th to April 27th, 2018 it looks as another film has been affected as well. Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Rampage’ which pits three Kaiju-sized monsters against one another has also been brought forward. Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema have moved the release date of this video game adaptation from April 20th to April 13th. This continues to give the movie a two-week cushion before the release of Marvel’s sure-fire mega-hit which will surely dominate the box office on release.

This also will likely end up having some minor ripples as to the staying power of Steven Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One‘ which has a March 30th release date and no longer has a three-week cushion of being the main tentpole in theaters.

Rampage‘ is another take at bringing a video game to life and while most of these have been failing, early screenings of this film have given positive results. Add in the star power of Dwayne Johnson which hasn’t been slowed by receiving a Razzie Award for ‘Baywatch,’ and it seems like it has potential blockbuster status all over it.

Let’s just hope it ends up being better received than say ‘Warcraft‘ and doesn’t fail at the box office. As I tend to root for Johnson’s films and believe that the trailer looks great, I’m still not entirely sold on how well this will end up. Excited for the film or not, you can’t argue that an additional week before the Marvel Studios tentpole of the year can do anything but help the film.

Would the release of ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Rampage’ set so close together have caused you to hesitate on which movie to see? Do you think this was a smart play by the studios to bump the film up a week? Share your thoughts below!
