rampage

While Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has starred in a few terrible movies, it never seems that he signs on to them as a quick money grab. So when I first heard he was attached to ‘Rampage,‘ I was worried that trend had come to an end. After watching the trailer, it quickly becomes clear that this movie looks like it is better than it has any right to be. A video game being turned into a film is generally the base recipe for disaster, and yet I smile watching it because it looks like an entertaining time! Now, I’m not sure how solid of a plot it is going to have, but they’ve put The Rock into a situation where he has to save the world, or at least Chicago, from some giant monsters. Only, one of these beasts was very recently his friend, so his goal will undoubtedly be to try and keep them safe as well.

You can check out the trailer right here:

In the film, Dwayne plays David Okoye who is a primatologist that has spent quite a bit of time working with a silverback gorilla who goes by the name of George. Thanks to a genetic experiment gone wrong, George, and two other animals in the preserve or zoo become giant monsters who are going on a rampage through Chicago. That might not have been their original goal but when Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, a government agent that gets in the way and tries to capture these monsters things, things go from bad to worse.

Also, he’s totally Negan.

Okoye will be teaming up with the disgraced genetic engineer who Naomie Harris plays to reverse this transformation and save his friend, and the city.

They’ve not only given the premise for the film a fun backstory that almost looks like it’ll work but the CGI’d gorilla, and also a wolf and crocodile, seem pretty fantastic. They should both be a treat for anyone who loves giant creature features.

As the film isn’t coming out by Legendary Pictures, we sadly can’t hope for these guys being through into the eventual Godzilla and Kong crossover films. Of course, even though they’re pretty giant by our size they are dwarfed by the new Kaiju and probably wouldn’t last that long on screen with them.

Are you as surprised as I am that you’re now looking forward to ‘Rampage’ or do you feel that this is going to be a box office disaster? Share your thoughts below!
