Emily VanCamp

Unfortunately, Emily VanCamp is bursting bubbles.  It doesn’t appear that she will be returning as Sharon Carter in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.  Here is what she had to say about her role:

“I mean listen, it’s hard to fit Sharon into that. She’s really in Cap’s world, you know what I mean? So, I mean, I can’t say anything about anything, but I will say that you know she sort of fits into the Captain America movies, that’s where her sort of story lies.”

It is hard to see how Carter’s secret agent would fit into a cosmic adventure like ‘Infinity War’.

Ironically, the character of Sharon Carter was introduced in Joe and Anthony Russo‘s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and further developed in ‘Civil War’ even though she didn’t interact with most of the other heroes.  The Russos directed both ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and the untitled ‘Avengers 4’, but are not continuing to develop the character in them.  Also, it’s no secret that a vocal number of fans don’t care for the romance between VanCamp’s Sharon Carter and Chris Evans’ Cap, who was previously in love with her aunt, Peggy.

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe past ‘Avengers 4’ is mostly unknown, with the only movies announced past that being the sequel for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3’.  There has been some question as to whether the existing stars would return for more movies, and that includes Evans as Captain America.  Some have speculated that he could surrender the role to either Anthony Mackie‘s Falcon or Sebastian Stan‘s Winter Soldier, both of whom operated as Cap at different times in the comics.

But it sounds like there is still a chance that we can expect more ‘Captain America’ films in some capacity and it’s likely that Sharon Carter’s evolution will continue in those instead of the ‘Avengers’ movies.

Are you disappointed that VanCamp won’t be back in the next two years?  Or would you rather see her story held for future movies?
