As much as we’ve all felt that Jerome would evolve into the Clown Prince of Crime on ‘Gotham,’ David Mazouz has now informed us that it just wasn’t meant to be. The actor who plays the future Dark Knight confirms that we’ll finally be getting a laugh with The Joker making his debut on the Fox run DC series, but it won’t be as expected. That being said, Jerome will appear to be the muse for whoever does put on the clown makeup.

According to the actor:

“He’s not the Joker, that’s all I’ll say. He definitely is the inspiration for the Joker and the way that the Joker comes into the show is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliant things that Gotham has ever done.”

So Jerome will inspire The Joker on ‘Gotham’ but won’t end up with him. At least we’re not going to see the villain falling into a vat of ACE Chemicals and losing his mind that way.

I’m sure we can all agree that it mostly seems gone at this point anyway.

The showrunners have long teased that we’ll have many potential actors show up as The Joker before he is finally revealed so this isn’t too much of a surprise that we’re going in a new direction for the character. Honestly, I’m a bit surprised we haven’t seen more fake outs before this one, but with how popular Cameron Monaghan has been with fans it was probably hard to even think about replacing him. He really did play such a good red herring.

You can watch Mazouz share the information in the video below!

Are you looking forward to seeing The Clown Prince of Crime finally appear on ‘Gotham’? Do you think he’ll directly go up against our future Dark Knight right off the bat or will he be more obsessed with Jerome at the start? Do you think that The Joker will end up being a character which we’ve already been introduced to or someone entirely new? Share your thoughts below!
