Kristin Chenoweth

I don’t want the title to mislead you, Kristin Chenoweth isn’t saying that she might not be returning to ‘American Gods’ in protest but that she isn’t sure what the direction of the series will be like now. Showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green recently left the series due to a budget dispute and while Chenoweth was “devastated” that they had left, it isn’t where the uncertainty lies. The problem with switching showrunners is that the entire plot could change on a whim and there is no word as to if her story arc will continue at all, let alone in the same way that it had been mapped out.

As Chenoweth stated:

“When Bryan was the showrunner, I was coming back for several episodes, but I don’t know now. It depends on who it is and if they think I add value or not.”

Chances are, most of the plot for the second season will continue as it had been intended. While it isn’t clear exactly how far into pre-production the next set of episodes already were, the network still has to find a new showrunner and get them up to speed. Having to do a full re-write of what was already intended would quite possibly push back production at this point. There are likely already too many delays on the table for Starz to be comfortable with, so any showrunner that they have in mind will likely have to be flexible and mostly deliver what is already on page before branching out with major changes which they’d like to make.

Also, with how big of a player Easter was by the season finale, it would seem unlikely that they would write her off without telling a bit more of her story arc.

Do you think there will be significant changes to the script as the second season gets a new showrunner and closer to production? Will the studio be okay with someone who won’t mostly follow through on the vision which resonated so well with fans for the first chapter? Share your thoughts below!
