Underworld

While we haven’t heard anything about the ‘Underworld television series in over a year, we have just learned that it is still moving forward! Len Wiseman recently shared that his production company Sketch Films was moving forward with the project though hasn’t made it clear as to if a deal has been reached with a streaming service or channel at this time. Wiseman had helped launch the franchise and has been involved with all five of the films so if you were a fan of what he’s delivered so far, you don’t need to worry about the fact that the tone of the TV series will be different from the movies.

About the series, Wiseman has said that:

“The series will be a pretty big departure from the films. I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less comic book in its tone and character.”

There will be a shift as to what has come before and what we’ll be seeing here, but I wouldn’t expect things to be completely different. Wiseman co-wrote and directed the first two films while producing the last three so it isn’t as if he hasn’t had a hand in everything related to the Vampire and Lycan war so far.

While it is unclear how much of the series he will be personally developing, he is the executive producer and will be working with Lakeshore Entertainment’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi and Eric Reid to bring this project to life. For those unfamiliar with Lakeshore, they have produced the entire franchise to date. As the Sony company Screen Gems distributed the films, Sony’s TV division will be involved in the series as well.

Having kicked off in 2003, we’ve now had 13 years of ‘Underworld’ films and a properly done television series on the right network could give us years of fresh content beyond. It is hard to tell if we’ll see Kate Beckinsale return as Selene or even what time period it will take place in at this time. I would expect a glorified cameo or two from her at the most if this series is even in the same universe as the movies.

Are you happy to hear that we’ll be getting more ‘Underworld’? Will they still stick to being in the same world as the movies when this debuts or will this be a reboot of the story? Share your thoughts below!
