I can’t wipe the smile off my face at the thought of Netflix’s ‘Black Mirror‘ taking on ‘Star Trek’ with a spoof episode. I’m quite excited to see what all six of the new episodes will bring but this one is now at the top of my list. We know that the upcoming episodes are titled ‘Crocodile’, ‘ArkAngel’, ‘Hang the DJ’, ‘USS Callister’, ‘Metalhead’, and ‘Black Museum.’ Obviously, the spoof episode is ‘USS Callister’.

In the PR image above we see Jesse Plemons (‘Fargo’) as the captain of the ship. Joining him are his fellow crewmembers, all of whom look to be human outside of one blue-skinned alien creature. The initial ‘Black Mirror’ teaser which has been released for the show had it look as if the ship was being attacked by an alien life force and whoever Cristin Milioti is playing is surrounded by a bright light which clearly isn’t too pleasant to be in.

This image makes it look like things aren’t so dire. Of course, this could be prior or after the problems from the teaser or even just a staged promotional shot instead of an actual still from the episode.

With how close to the original ‘Star Trek’ this appears, I’m sure we’ll have a couple of references to the material that they are spoofing. However, how much will actually be referenced remains to be seen.

It should also be noted that this is the only episode this season which series creator Charlie Brooker did not write on his own. William Bridges who previously wrote ‘Shut Up and Dance’ from Season 3 was back to help pen this episode. As that entree into the series was just as enjoyable as everything else Brooker has written, that doesn’t really change my excitement level one way or another.

Netflix has not yet announced when the fourth season of ‘Black Mirror’ will be available for streaming.

Are you looking forward to seeing ‘USS Callister’ when it premieres? How much into ‘Star Trek’ will they spoof outside of the look of the bridge and the uniforms? Share your thoughts below!
