Star Wars Rebels

The fourth season of ‘Star Wars Rebels‘ is sadly the last and we’ve just gotten the first trailer for it. While I’ll be sad to see it go, things are already looking like it is going to end on a high point. What I’m mainly curious about though is how they’re going to end the series. It has long felt like it would be a bit of a let down to see our two Jedi still active in the Rebel Alliance as that would diminish the importance of Luke Skywalker in ‘A New Hope’. I also don’t want to see anything happen to Taylor Gray’s Ezra Bridger or Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Kanan Jarrus but I’m not sure how to keep them around and not take away from Skywalker.

It’ll be fun to see how this plays out and give us a strong ending.

You can check out the trailer here!

So what can we expect from the season thanks to this trailer? Force Wolves. Some amazing space battles. A few cameos from Rogue One characters. Chopper is clearly getting a paint job. Things are going to get insane. I’m eager to see if the series will catch up to Rogue One by the time it comes to a close though I suspect that won’t happen without a couple of time jumps.

One thing hinted at in this trailer has also been confirmed by Executive producer Dave Filoni is that the crewmembers of The Ghost have joined the Rebel Alliance!

“I don’t think of them at the end of season 3 as too victorious, as much as they just got away. They lost a lot of resources, they lost the initiative to have an attack to free the world of Lothal or knock out the Imperial factory there. In the end, yes they got away, but that’s kind of all they got. Now they have a lot less.

They get folded into the larger Rebellion that would be more familiar to what you saw in Rogue One”

The idea of these heroes which we’ve seen significantly grow over the course of three seasons finally being part of the main fight is exciting. Though it almost looks that as much as they’ve come together as a family that they’ll be apart for parts of the season.

Also while we did hear that Director Orson Krennic name drop, don’t expect to hear Ben Mendelsohn voicing the character as:

“Name-dropping. It’s always fun to make it feel like it’s part of this big world … But the cape alone would be half my budget, just to make it flow.

I was imagining a shot with Vader and Krennic and the Emperor, but it’s like having a cape convention with those guys. Then you have Tarkin and Thrawn, and it starts too look like a Legion of Bad Guys. When you get too many bizarre Star Wars villains together, I don’t know if it works for me.”

While most of these villains won’t be showing up in the same scene, we do know that Grand Admiral Thrawn will once again be the central enemy of the Rebel Alliance:

“Thrawn sees value in building better fighter craft, especially to fight the more equipped Rebel ships like X-wings. Not everybody shares that point of view, though. As in all things, there’s competition for funding and power. We’ll see a little of that politicking in the Empire.”

Also returning from ‘Rogue One’ and the previous season is Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera who is out investigating a major weapon being developed in deep space. Yes, an early form of the Death Star will likely be making an appearance. A lot is coming up and quite a few plot lines to close off in the final season.
