When ‘Castle Rock‘ comes to Hulu we won’t see any episodes penned by Stephen King but the famed author is only doing so as he fully trusts in J.J. Abrams. With King already having final say in ‘The Dark Tower,’ having witnessed ‘The Mist’ ahead of time, ‘Mr. Mercedes’ having just debuted, and likely having a say in the upcoming adaptation of ‘It’ it has already been a busy year for King in cinema, and that isn’t even counting any of his own writing. This 10-episode series which takes place in Castle Rock which spans many of King’s works are still in the works, and we’re not even sure as to the release date at this time. We do know that Bill Skarsgard, Melanie Lynskey (‘Togetherness’), Andre Holland (‘American Horror Story’), Jane Levy (‘Don’t Breathe’), and Sissy Spacek (‘Carrie’) are all involved in the project.
Personally, I’m hoping that they find a way to work out the rights to have Skarsgard reprise his upcoming role as Pennywise.
Here is what King had to say about Abrams’ involvement:
“I don’t have any plans to write for it but I’m in contact with J.J. Abrams. We’ve talked about a couple of interesting ideas, and I know at least one of the stories that has a Castle Rock background will figure in the TV series. It’s a little like sending your kids off to college: Here’s what I’ve got for you, I’ve raised you right, hopefully you’ll go off and you won’t get into trouble. Sometimes they do anyway!”
Hopefully it will graduate with flying colors as the novels which have all made references to this town include: “It, Dolores Claiborne, Needful Things, ‘Salem’s Lot, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, Dreamcatcher, Night Shift, The Green Mile, Misery, Hearts in Atlantis, The Shining, The Mangler, Four past Midnight, Different Seasons, Nightmares & Dreamscapes, and The Night Flier.” With ‘It’ being the very first one mentioned it has my hopes up about Skarsgard in what would be the perfect surprise for fans of the novel and likely upcoming film.
